Photography Equipment I Recommend

Over the last several years since I started Photography on canon AL 1 in 1987, I have used various photography equipments with both good and bad experiences. What follows is my recommendation based on the good experience I have had with certain gadgets. As I started with our photography store, "Click for Camera - and everything a photographer needs" in 2012, sharing and recommending the right stuff became all the more necessary. It gets quite confusing for a beginner to decide about the first camera and other equipment to buyI have not stocked just about everything but just the right products, which are highly recommended.

Canon EOS 5D mark III Canon EOS 6D  Canon EOS 70D

Canon EOS 5d mark III -  I was quite happy with 5d mark II, and did not really need to change over to mark III. Selling an old camera does not always get you a good price. However, one of my own students, now a well established photographer convinced me that its a very good camera. This was before i started Click for Camera, and I had an opportunity to buy it from the USA. Well, when I actually had it in my hands I could make out the difference in its focusing speed and the overall IQ. If you need a camera to be used just about in the studio, in controlled environment and you already own mark II, you may not really need to go for mark III but Yes, besides the fact that it has almost similar pixels, the focusing speed is very fast and accurate. The image quality at very high ISO is remarkably great. I have always preferred to have a good camera for personal use. When you shoot commercially, you shoot for others but when you do it for yourself, never settle for anything less than the best. I have always highly recommended Canon eos 5d Mark III to my students. I very strongly believe, that if you can afford it, you don't have to be a professional to own one. Its much easier to use compared to the entry level cameras. As a pro, when you go around looking for work, your perspective clients may certainly ask about the equipment you use. Mark III certainly has a very good reputation in the market and for good and valid reasons.

Canon EOS 6d

If you do not have the budget to go for my favourite, 5D mark III, this is the choice for you. Its quite similar to more expensive 5d Mark III with some structural differences. You may compare the two cameras. If the faster focusing  and the high ISO capabilities of 5d mark III are not really needed, you can safely go for this camera and save on almost 1 lac rupees. Also, it will be faster to recover your investments if you are just starting off as a professional.

Canon 70d

Although Canon 5D mark III is quite popular with videos as well, I usually found it a bit difficult to use in random uncontrolled situations for video. When I launched Together we rock, the wedding photography and video company, I realised my team had quite a lot of out of focus footage from Mark III and it was quite difficult to use it as the main camera. Under ideal conditions, mark III is a great camera for video and even otherwise if you are good at manual focusing and are ready to take your chances.

Then came 70D with its autofocus capability while recording the video. My team has since been using Canon 70d for all the video coverage and we get the best out of the range of Canon lenses that we have. For the personal travel trips as well, I have not looked back at any of the Handycams that I own. On the trips, Its great as a second body and also as a crop body along with the mark III. well, once you are addicted to the quality of Mark III, you may not really use 70d as much but yes, certainly for all the videos. Instead of buying any other entry level camera, I would highly recommend EOS 70D, its worth spending that extra money
